BLOG #22 FINAL BLOG The outbreak of COVID-19 within the United States’ territories is the root cause of spiking protests and the increase in gun ownership among Americans. However, this is a mere cover-up of the injustices occurring to the minority people by the United States government and its media. According to the June 17, 2020 article, How Covid-19 is changing the gun debate by Rashawn Ray and Rebecca Shankman, the Americans protested to inform the government to reopen the economy sanctioned shutdowns by states fully. The citizens perceived the imposed quarantine and lockdowns, a violation of their freedom. In passing out their anger to the government, the Americans stormed into the streets with pipe wrenches and assault weapons. BLOG # 21 Matt Gaetz’s allegiance to Donald Trump put him in the middle of a federal investigation into sex trafficking allegations. These are grave allegations that would cost him his career, and he may even face jail time. The media had to get to the bottom of the matter and uncover all the information related to this case, including the people involved. The article by CNN talks about how Donald Trump denied a meeting with Matt Gaetz (CNN, 2021). CNN uses a statement from two people saying that Gaetz tried to schedule a meeting with Former President Trump, but he was denied (CNN, 2021). They use this statement to conclude that Gaetz finds himself isolated from the looming scandal that might end his career and destroy his reputation. However, Gaetz spokesman, Harlan Hill, stated to CNN saying that Gaetz did not request any meeting with Trump because he is relaxing during this recess (CNN, 2021). Blog # 20 The decision by the MLB to move the All-Star game out of Georgia is a surprise. However, this decision is in line with a commitment the league made to the non-partisan Civic Alliance in 2020. Major League Baseball became the first organization to join part the Alliance. The Alliance exists to avert voter discrimination and hold every American dear's rights. There is a divide on this move. Unfortunately, or naturally, it is along political lines. The media has done an excellent job of covering both sides of the conversation. On the one hand, media houses have brought out the distaste expressed by Republican leaders and Republican leaders in Georgia. The governor of Georgia Kemp says that they will not condone bullying and do not support this decision (Young, 2021). Most media houses account for the Democrat side, With ESPN mentioning responses from The President of the United States Joe Biden and his support for the decision.
