BLOG # 11 The Cable News Network (CNN) covered this event quite objectively, given that it brought out well the fact that the Covid-19 relief issue was a national concern, coming at a time when there was a change of leadership in the country (Fox, 2021). Having lost approximately 500,000 Americans to the pandemic, the bill to help Americans shoulder the resultant economic burden needed a bipartisan approach (Fox, 2021). The reporter even observed, and rightly so, that even within the Democratic Party itself, the moderates and the progressives needed to work together. For the undecided, the general opinion was that it was not appropriate to fight Biden's first major assignment, more so if it is a bill that is popular across the country (Fox, 2021). The reporter did well to observe the most likely reaction of the Republicans, who may oppose the bill for no reason other than that they lost in the elections (Fox, 2021). One issue the writer has noted is the slim majority held by the ...

BLOG # 10 The coverage of Neera Tanden's story was generally okay. However, being a newsworthy story, it did not receive the coverage it required. The article only highlights the story that CNN news covered. Even though it mentions reporters in a press release, it does not mention which other media outlets covered the story. Several things could have prompted the story to receive National interest. Firstly, it involved a prominent person. Neera Tanden is a prominent politician who has served significant roles in the US government for a long time. Therefore, her story, especially that most senators are against her nomination, would be of interest to people. Secondly, the story involved Neera as the only prominent person and involved President Joe Biden, who I feel could have attracted many media outlets of all sorts. Thirdly, it involved a change of policy where some leaders can diminish the power of the president. The article states that the president has the authority and power ...

Blog # 9 Comments on Cruz Travels to Cancun The media for decades has had a fundamental role and voice in politics. It is not surprising to witness newspapers and magazines using a substantial chunk of information for political discourse. At the commence of the 20th Century, when broadcast media paved the way for television reports and radio briefs, it brought the light of political stories into the public's eye (Bruns et al., 2015). Newspapers followed a similar path, later on, functioning as a watchdog and providing the readers with significant news coverage on up-to-date events and emerging issues. However, the media's role in politics is questionable as individuals are always left questioning who really is usually behind specific stories. Illustratively, it is doubtful how the CNN February 18, 2021 article, "Cruz travels to Cancun, Mexico, as Texans remain without power amid a historic winter storm," covered the story, branding Senator Ted Cruz as unconcerned...

BLOG # 8 From what is being presented, I believe that the impeachment managers' approach is quite well organized and sound reasoning. The procedures they have put in place seem to be well abiding and well planned. I believe that the trial will be of much importance as far as legal formalities are concerned. Lack of remorsefulness is a big social vice, given that it occurs as a leading party. Given the attack's toll, it even beats more logic even when the most public figure does not show his remorse to the affected. However, the team working on this case seem to be determined to get to the bottom of the matter by keeping everything zipped up till the trial day. Impeachment managers plan to zero in on Trump's lack of remorse today From CNN's Manu Raju, Jeremy Herb and Lauren Fox The House impeachment managers work on speech details on Wednesday, February 10. BLOG # 7 Worth noting, the debate on President Trump’s trial has been based on a built-up of issues. The withdrawal from WHO is just one of the issues. The climax of the push came during the Capitol Hill attack, where Vice President Mike Pence has been arguably noted as one of the prime targets during the attack. The media coverage of President Trump as being a prime person of interest in bearing the blame for the attack is accurate considering the subsequent tweets and timelines of events. Even on his last day, the President did not honor the American precedent of accepting defeat hence contributed to the polarization of the nation. Towards his last days at the White House, he disagreed with his key allies, with Vice President Trump being the most prime one, the attack at Capitol Hill, however, dealt him a blow. With much vigor, the media spoke to the American people hence the status quo of the President’s impeachment trial at the floor of the Senate even after leaving the White Hou...

BLOG # 6 In the article, the media succinctly covers the details about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s punishment for her hostile media reports. The US house, and more particularly, votes are made in the proposal to eliminate her from chair. The media covers her posts, quoting that most of them have been incendiary and against the desired content for communication. CNN covers reports about her walking the well of the House floor with a board with a long-removed post and ad depicting a weapon held next to some democratic representatives. She leaves the message for self-interpretation by the House. The media covers the role of the Electoral College and the Indecisive Elections by the House of Representatives. One of the areas that the media intersects with politics is the rule that for as long as there are more than one who have such a Majority and a similar equal number of votes, then the House of representatives can act accordingly in elections. Greene countered the media because of ...

BLOG # 5 Disinformation campaigns are one of the media challenges faced by multiple organizations. For instance, the challenge hitting Giuliani and Fox News personalities that escalated to $2.7 billion was unexpected, especially with the unintentional reporting of election lies. In this case, the media successfully integrated with politics, especially with the Smartmatic suit. The political part of the case is manifested when a voting company is caught in a right-wing election conspiracy to the extent of suing Fox News along with other involved parties such as commentators. Bogus stories are stories of key interests for politics since the media is vulnerable to lies. The media, especially social media users, are more susceptible to fake news reports. As such, it is the communications professionals' responsibility to take charge of debunking misinformation and only promote accurate news for the audience. Both disinformation and misinformation are the considerable primary as...
